The yellow-and-black wasp behind most Cork callouts. Nests in lofts, cavity walls, garden sheds and underground.

How to identify

  • 12–17mm, yellow with sharp black bands
  • Anchor-shaped black mark on the face
  • Builds papery grey nests, often the size of a football by August

Risk level

Highly defensive near the nest. A single colony can hold 5,000–10,000 wasps by late summer.

Our treatment

Direct insecticidal dust to the nest entrance, full PPE, evening visit when traffic is highest. Nest physically removed when safe.
